Biology Honors Program

The Honors Program in Biology at the University of Connecticut provides an enhanced educational experience to intellectually able and highly motivated undergraduate students. About six percent of the undergraduates at Storrs are in the Honors Program. The three biology departments, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Physiology and Neurobiology, are jointly responsible for the Biology Honors Program which is the largest Honors Program at the University, with over 100 Honors Scholars.

There are many benefits to participating in the Biology Honors Program including specially designated courses designed to stimulate our Honors Scholars, early access to advanced-level courses, and individualized advising by Biology faculty from the students first semester on campus. Biology Honors Scholars also carry out independent research under the guidance of faculty mentors and are eligible for Provost Research Scholarships. They have the potential for co-authoring research publications and are encouraged to participate in the Annual Biology Undergraduate Colloquium.

To graduate as a Biology Honors Scholar, a student must have a Total Grade Point Average of at least 3.2 and must write a senior thesis based on the independent research. For more information, contact one of the Biology Honors Advisors:
